Jackson firefighter suspended for ‘conduct unbecoming an officer’

DOWNTOWN JACKSON — A captain with the Jackson Fire Department is off the job for three shifts. Jackson Fire Chief Max Stewart said Capt. Neal Cowater has been suspended for “conduct unbecoming an officer.” However, he would not elaborate on the specifics. Stewart also confirmed Cowater was suspended six months ago for the remainder of a shift for the same offense. Stewart said unfortunately things like this happen. “This disciplinary action will be entered into his record,” Stewart said. “When he gets through with this disciplinary action, he will return to work.” WBBJ reviewed Cowater’s personnel folder Tuesday at Jackson City Hall. Neither incident was in his file. Cowater has been with the Jackson Fire Department since 1996.
