EAST JACKSON — Jackson police took three people into custody Wednesday during a drug raid. “I pray to God that our communities will get better,” neighbor Wanda Taylor said. The SWAT team swarmed a portion of Parkway East Apartments, also known as 33 Carver, around 9 a.m. Police arrested Robert Bond III, 25, who lived in the apartment. They reported finding approximately seven ounces of high-grade marijuana and drug paraphernalia commonly used for distribution inside the apartment. Bond is charged with possession of marijuana with intent to sell and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was booked into the Madison County Jail as he awaits his first appearance in Jackson City Court. “It’s good that they are getting drugs off the street, because we have so many young people that’s becoming addicted to it,” Taylor said. Investigators said officers also executed a search warrant at a house on Tracewood Cove at around 7:30 a.m. Investigators said they took brother Wheatley and Whitley Graham into custody. A search of the home uncovered approximately 12 ounces of marijuana, drug paraphernalia and a loaded 9mm handgun, according to officer. Dogs were also discovered on the premises, which officers said were not properly cared for. Wheatley, 27, and Whitley, 25, are charged with possession of marijuana with intent to sell, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a firearm in the commission of a dangerous felony and aggravated animal cruelty. The Graham brothers were also booked into the Madison County Jail. “If you’re selling drugs or if you’re a gang member in this community, we’re not going to tolerate it,” said Capt. Julian Wiser with the Jackson Police Department. Taylor said she likes the police presence. “I’m so extremely happy about it that the police is driving up and down the street patrolling the neighborhoods,” she said. Officers said they plan to work with the community but also be tough on crime. “Anytime you can take drugs and guns off the street and get violent offenders off the street, it‘s a successful day for the community,” Wiser said. Members of the Jackson-Madison County Metro Narcotics Unit along with officers of the Madison County Sheriff’s Office and Jackson Police Department served the warrants. On Tuesday, a drug related search warrant was also served at a home in the 400-block of Browns Church Road in Madison County. During the search, three harvested marijuana plants, drug paraphernalia and a loaded shotgun were recovered. The target of the investigation, who was not identified, was not at home at the time. Investigators said they will seek an arrest warrant charging him with manufacturing marijuana, possession of marijuana with the intent to sell, possession of a firearm in commission of a dangerous felony and possession of drug paraphernalia.
