Jackson police search for driver involved in deadly hit and run

EAST JACKSON, Tenn. — Police are searching for a driver who caused a deadly hit and run crash. Investigators say a man speeding down Lexington Avenue just after 11 p.m. Wednesday crashed into a car crossing over the Lindsey Street intersection. “He failed to stop at a stop sign and proceeded across the intersection,” said Captain J.D. Hale with the Jackson Police Department. One neighbor, who asked to not be identified, said the commotion outside his house woke him up. “I looked out the window and saw blue lights, a lot of emergency equipment, so I came out and looked, and there was a car wrapped around a pole there,” he said. “By the amount of damage to the vehicles and the distance they traveled after impact, it was a clear indicator that they were not traveling at 30 miles per hour,” Hale said. Police identified the victim as Marcus Jones. He was dead when officers arrived. Officers said the driver who caused the crash ran away from the scene. “The car was not driveable after the impact.,” Hale said. “We don’t know which direction he ran from the scene.” Now, investigators are asking for the man responsible for the deadly crash to come forward. “I just feel sorry for the family, and God bless them,” the neighbor said. “I hate that anything like that happened.” Officers said the man who fled the scene left behind a 2006 Chrysler 300. If you have any information about this accident, call Jackson Police or Crime Stoppers at (731) 424-TIPS (8477).
