St. Louis fugitive found hiding in Jackson

MIDTOWN JACKSON — A fugitive accused of shooting a man four times in St. Louis and then burning his body was found Friday morning hiding out in Jackson. U.S. Marshals said murder suspect Bryant Evans was hiding under a pile of clothes in his sister’s apartment on North Highland Avenue. Jackson Interim Police Chief Julian Wiser said the Marshals and Jackson’s Gang Enforcement team worked together to issue the arrest warrant. Danny Bridger lives next door and explained what he saw. “They parked over in my yard next door, one of them, and then they had two cars back here and one over here,” Bridger said. St. Louis police said Evans is wanted in connection with a Sept. 4 homicide. Investigators said Darnell Robinson was shot four times in the head then set on fire inside a car. Evans now faces several charges that include first-degree murder and abandonment of a corpse. Bridger said he is shocked a dangerous fugitive was living so close. “We’ve had trouble here before, but it was a long time ago.” Investigators said Evans was staying with his sister. Wiser said two other people were taken into custody for local warrants inside the apartment. The fugitive’s sister, Brittany Evans, was arrested on scene for an outstanding theft warrant. Also arrested was Markee Hoskins who was wanted by the Haywood County Sheriff’s Office on theft and narcotics charges. All of this came on newly appointed Interim Police Chief Wiser’s first full day. A man who lives down the street from Brittany Evans and asked to be unnamed said he thinks Wiser will help with the crime in Jackson. “I heard about some of his work he’s been doing with the gang related crimes and things like that, but other than that I think he might make a difference. I hope he does,” the neighbor said. All three subjects were booked into the Madison County Jail. It is not yet known when Bryant Evans will be extradited back to St. Louis.
