DOWNTOWN JACKSON, Tenn. — With Halloween less than two weeks away, people are getting in the spirit. Monday night is the 13th annual Ghost Tales of Jackson and story teller d n English is getting ready to thrill the crowd. English said she has been telling ghost stories for twenty years. “It’s a sneaky way to get people to learn about the history of Jackson and enjoy the spirit of the season,” English said. English said she started her research because so many people aren’t aware of the history in Jackson. Once she realized there were many stories to be told, she started asking people what they’ve experienced. “Like in the Pythian one person said they could smell vanilla and the lady of the Pythian wore vanilla,” English said. English said there’s no reason to fear the spirits in Jackson. “They’re good spirits they’re spirits that want to look after you they just didn’t want to leave this earth yet, they were happy in this place.” English explained. English said to come to this event with an open mind. “This year we’re going to do some interviews with ghosts. They’re going come up and tell their story so that’ll be fun.” Co-owner of TinPot Entertainment, Dana Poteete, said while English’s story can stand on their own, the ghosts set the mood. “They’re very interesting, they’re very entertaining, but I think it adds a lot. It adds the visual to see the ghost,” Poteete said. “It’s a mysterious time of year. Let’s face it it’s Halloween,” English said. Dana thinks this fun time of the year doubles as a history lesson, “it is interesting for people who not only grew up here to learn about their city, but for people who have just moved here.” English said the spirits and history in Jackson goes back to the 16th century. Poteete said she expects close to 300 people at Monday night’s event. The Ghost Tales of Jackson starts at 6:30 p.m. at the Farmers Market in downtown Jackson.
