Old Medina Winery fire ruled arson

NORTH JACKSON — The Madison County Fire Department said someone intentionally set the fire at Old Medina Winery over the weekend. “It’s uncalled for,” neighbor Mildred Cash said. “They got nothing out of it you know, so why do something that way?” Firefighters got the call around 3 a.m. Saturday. Madison County Fire Chief Eric Turner confirmed the fire started inside the structure but refused to say how it sparked “I can’t really go into the reasons why we know it was arson and how that fire started,” Turner said. The Madison County Fire Department said the Tennessee State Bomb and Arson Division helped with the investigation. Turner said the Madison County Sheriff‘s Office is also involved. “They will really take the case and run with it from this point forward, and we will be assisting them,” Turner said. “They will be the lead agency from this point forward.” Turner said the winery closed about six years ago and that the building is a total loss. “It had some time for the fire to progress before anybody noticed it,” he said. “Breaks your heart to think that happens in your hometown,” Cash said. “I hope they catch whoever done it.” Investigators said they have no suspects and that no charges have been filed. Firefighters confirmed no one was hurt. This weekend, the property owners told WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News they did not want to talk about what happened.
