CAMDEN, Tenn. — Clara Lutter says even though she misses her son every day, she is leaving it up to God to determine what will happen in the courtroom. She hopes the death can serve as a reminder to others that life is too short to live with regrets. “My world was turned upside down,”said Lutter, whose son, Randy Kem Travis, was fatally shot July 20 in Benton County. She says at least once a week she visits his grave as she recalls the phone call she got breaking the news. “It was gut wrenching,” she said. Relatives say Travis was visiting family members when he was shot and ran his car into a tree. “It’s a bad dream,” said Thomas Rowsey, Travis’ uncle. “I keep thinking I’m going to wake up, but I’m not.” Rowsey says the suspected shooter, Eddie Laws, who has not been charged with pulling the trigger, was no stranger to the family. Rowsey said he and Laws were friends. Family members say they do not want to focus on the pain now that Travis is gone. Instead, they say they hope Travis’ death will inspire others to live without leaving words unspoken. “As a parent, give them all the love, so that in case something do happen with any family member, that you have no regrets and nothing left unsaid,” Lutter said. Eddie Laws is set to face a grand jury Monday morning. He is charged in connection to the July shooting death of Travis in Camden. Laws is being charged with felony unlawful possession of a weapon.
