HAYWOOD COUNTY, Tenn. — Funds used to help some West Tennessee residents pay their bills has been suspended. According to county commissioners and county officials, the Haywood County mayor’s benevolent fund has been suspended indefinitely. The fund was set up to help people in the community, but commissioners say the money had been overdrawn by nearly $16,000. In a commission meeting Monday night, commissioners voted to add $20,000 to the account to clear all outstanding debt before the account was frozen. There were two no votes.
