Dyersburg dog whose case went viral is granted extension

DYERSBURG, Tenn. — The story of the Dyersburg dog named Beau takes another twist. Beau was expected to be put down on Tuesday but the attorneys representing Danny Higgins, the dog’s owner, have until Nov. 20 to fight for the dog. Beau’s story went viral a month ago after he was taken from his home in September by animal control officers. According to police reports, Beau was deemed vicious after he killed a duck and then attempted to bite an 8-year-old boy. Beau was originally ordered to be euthanized on Oct. 21. Due to the fight from his attorneys and an extension given by Dyersburg City Mayor John Holden, Beau now has an additional 30 days. Higgins attorney, William Edwards, told WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News the time gives him and Higgins a fighting chance to get Beau back. Edwards also said the limitations caused by the law and how broad the law is defined has caused this controversy. As of now, Beau remains at the Dyersburg Humane Society where he is sheltered and cared for. Every day since Beau was taken from his home, Higgins has visited his beloved dog and spent quality time playing with him. Higgins has received support from all over the nation and continues to gain even more support for his dog.
