Senator Bob Corker meets with West Tenn. mayors

DOWNTOWN JACKSON — U.S. Senator Bob Corker, R-Tenn., met with mayors from across West Tennessee on Wednesday to discuss a variety of issues including industry and economic growth. “We’re a place where businesses want to locate and so there’s a constant showcasing of our state that needs to occur,” Corker said. Corker told the group about a recent trip to Europe focused on bringing more business to the state. “Everyone’s very aware there’s a tremendous site here in West Tennessee that would be a great place for another automobile manufacturer to locate,” Corker said. Brownsville Mayor Bill Rawls said they are working to develop the Megasite in Haywood County. “Our job as mayors and local communities are to get workforce development, to have our people prepared to go to work,” Rawls said. Jackson Mayor Jerry Gist said he wants to see some of the money we pay to Washington come back here. “In the way of removing slum and blight, and our continuing fight on crime, all across West Tennessee and really the entire state,” Gist said. Corker also addressed bipartisanship. “I know that the American people are very frustrated with Washington and should be,” he said. West Tennessee mayors said they constantly work with lawmakers in Washington.
