DOWNTOWN JACKSON — More than 400 seniors from West Tennessee participated Wednesday in the annual Nursing Home Olympics at the Jackson Fairgrounds. Residents from more than 20 nursing homes from across the area participated in games such as wheelchair basketball and bean bag toss. Seniors also caught a performance by a Blues Brothers cover band. “We want the world to know that they are active people, not a disease — Alzheimer’s or dementia — but that they are active people,” said Jackie Collins, activities director at Milan Health Care. Organizers say the event also helps seniors adjust to the cultural changes of life in nursing homes.
