Cold snap could lead to more home fires

MADISON COUNTY, Tenn. — The recent cool weather we have been having has firefighters warning about your heaters. Officials said the first cold snap of the year is the most dangerous time of year for home fires. “Over the summer time, the thermostat may get set back and a couch or a chair may get put in front of that heater, and then when the temperature drops, the thermostat kicks in,” said Don Friddle, Fire Marshal of the Madison County Fire Department. If you heat your home with gas heat and smell gas when you turn on your heat, then you should turn it off, open your windows and call 911.
