LEXINGTON, Tenn. — A Lexington man was arrested Thursday morning accused of stealing high priced items from a local restaurant. Dave’s Smokehouse Grill has been closed for weeks, but police said someone has still visited the restaurant because more than 300 items were stolen last week. Lexington Police Captain Jeff Middleton said Eric Caffey was charged with burglary and theft over $1,000. “They were stainless steel prep tables, food prep tables in addition to serving trays there were 300 of those service trays, three of the stainless steel tables and then also he stole a bread making machine,” Middleton said. Middleton said a tip from the community led them to Caffey who had sold some of the stolen metal to Grimes Recycling in Lexington. “We went there and were able to see some of the items there and the subsequent investigation led us right to this particular defendant,” Middleton said. Middleton told WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News Caffey used to be an employee of the restaurant. “We think that’s one of the reasons he targeted the business he knew what was there he knew the type of equipment that was on hand.” Middleton said right now they do not believe anyone else was involved, but are looking at surveillance video from businesses in the area. He is still working with owner David Williams to see if anything else is missing. According to officials at the Henderson County Criminal Justice Center Caffey was released Thursday on $7,500 bond. He is scheduled to appear before a judge on Tuesday. WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News reached out to the restaurant owner David Williams, but he was unavailable to comment Thursday night.
