Police: Speed not a factor in fatal pedestrian-vehicle accident

EAST JACKSON — Jackson police say a pedestrian has died after being hit by a pickup truck on North Royal Street. The accident happened just before 2 a.m.. Police say they do not believe the driver of the truck was speeding. “There were no indicators of fault on the part of the driver,” said Captain J.D. Hale with the Jackson Police Department. “All indicators were that the pedestrian had suddenly bolted into the lane of travel.” Investigators say even though it is a heavily traveled road, the street has high visibility. “Not only is it a well-traveled area, it’s also a well-lit area,” Hale said. The driver was cited but not for the accident. “The only citation was against the driver, which was violation of registration law,” Hale said. Police say a toxicology report will show whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the pedestrian’s death.
