Reported gunfire sends crowd running

EAST JACKSON, Tenn. – There was a scare not far from the Lane College campus, Saturday night. A report of gunfire near a large gathering of people was called into the Jackson Police Dept. just after 6 p.m. It’s believed to have happened in the 300-block of North Hays Street near the T.R. White Sportsplex. Witnesses said two groups of women were arguing then began fighting. They said several other people joined in. That’s when the witnesses said a man fired a single shot into the air and took off running. Investigators said they were unable to positively confirm a shooting happened because they could not find any evidence at the scene and witnesses refused to comment.
