BENTON COUNTY, Tenn. — Normal train operations resumed Tuesday morning after a train derailment late Sunday in Benton County, according to a release from CSX Transportation. Crews are continuing cleanup efforts at the site of the derailment, which happened around 10 p.m. and is said to be caused by washout after a levee broke at a nearby pond, the Benton County Sheriff’s Office has said. The accident does not pose a threat to the environment, according to Kelly Brockman with the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation. CSX crews will be reaching out to property owners to coordinate the removal of the remaining rail cars, according to the company. A CSX freight train with one locomotive and 78 empty hopper cars partially derailed from the tracks about five miles west of Camden, according to the company. The locomotive and 14 empty coal cars were derailed. Stay with WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News for continuing coverage of this story.
