Huge stakes bring Westview and Crockett Co. together

MARTIN, Tenn. – Catching Crockett County hasn’t been easy for anyone. Their closest competition was Dyersburg in Week four. The Cavaliers won by two touchdowns. “They’re certainly a playoff caliber team. They’re the kind of team you normally meet up with in the quarterfinals or semifinals,” said Westview head coach Don Coady. A huge reason for the Cavaliers unblemished record is senior Johnny Jones, who is a few yards shy of 2,000 yards. “A lot of credit would have to go to their blocking.” The Chargers may not be dominating their opponents by an average of five touchdowns like the Cavaliers, but only one loss separates them from Crockett. “They do everything so well,” said Crockett Co. head coach Kevin Ward. Both teams have already locked up postseason berths. Next on the list is the District 13-AA Championship, along with a top seed in the playoffs. “If we win we’re going to play at home for 3-4 rounds if we’re very fortunate to make it that far,” explained Ward. Coach Ward’s plans for a district championship began in his first year, when Jones was just a freshman. “It would be real special for us to bring some hardware to Crockett County,” said Jones.
