Brighton mayor faces theft, official misconduct charges

TIPTON COUNTY, Tenn. — The mayor of Brighton is officially charged Tuesday with using city resources for work on his son’s home, according to a release from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation. Jeffrey Scott, 53, is charged with three counts of official misconduct and one count of theft over $1,000 after an investigation revealed he used city personnel and equipment in the construction of his son’s home, according to the release. The work was done from Oct. 28 to Oct. 30 in 2013, the release states. Scott was booked Tuesday into the Tipton County Jail on a $5,000 bond.
