BENTON COUNTY, Tenn. — A marijuana growing operation discovered deep in the woods of Benton County. Deputies said they are still looking for the owners. “We got plants upon plants out here,” said Benton County Sheriff Kenny Christopher. “They cut these probably last week because they still haven’t dried out good.” The Benton County Sheriff’s Office said rabbit hunters stumbled upon this grow operation Saturday. “We’ve been watching it for the weekend, just to see if anyone showed up,” Sheriff Christopher said. The Sheriff’s Office said they found about 31 marijuana plants, the street value of which is almost $8,000. They also say the people that were growing it knew what they were doing. “They were using Miracle Grow and were watering constantly,” Sheriff Christopher said. “They had definitely been working on it all summer and they got some pretty decent plants.” Sheriff Christopher saID this is the time of year where grows like this one go up in smoke. “It’s not a large amount,” Sheriff Christopher said. “But it’s one of I’m sure many crops that are growing right now because it’s harvest time in Tennessee.” Deputies said they have not been able to find out who is responsible for the grow but say they are more than welcome to stop by the sheriff’s office. “We’ll see what we can work out, make them some sort of a deal,” Sheriff Christopher said. “Maybe we’ll make them an offer they can’t refuse.” Deputies said the marijuana was being grown on land owned by the TVA, which could mean more charges for whoever was growing the marijuana. If you have any information on who’s behind this marijuana grow call the Benton County Sheriff’s Office at (731) 584-4632.
