Fire offiicials warn of increased threat of grass fires

JACKSON, Tenn.- A warning as temperatures drop and dry leaves gather. Fire officials said during this time the threat of grass fires only goes up. Leaves and dry grass throughout the area would only fuel a fire that got out of hand. Low humidities and dry, cool air only makes conditions worse for grass fires. Experts said a simple spark could lead to disaster. “Well if your gonna burn anything its good to call your local fire department to get a burn permit. This will let you know when the conditions are right to burn. so it doesn’t get out of control,” said Battalion Chief Mark Ferguson of the Jackson Fire Department. Rain is in the forecast Tuesday night which officials said will help lessen the risk of fire.
