Dad saves wife, kids from fiery blaze

HENDERSON COUNTY, Tenn. — A heroic act by a father saves his family from an early Sunday morning fire. Only a few hours since the fire destroyed a mobile home on Amanda Park Cove near Lexington, Jack Burton returned to see the damage of a blaze that could have claimed his entire family. “When I woke up, the fire was already in our bedroom and engulfed our door,” Burton said. “We literally ran through the fire, through the door to get out.” Burton said his daughter was asleep in her crib next to him and his pregnant wife. He woke them up before rushing across the hall where his two sons were sleeping. All three children are under the age of six. “I don’t see myself as a hero. I see myself as very fortunate to be alive, to be able to be here with my family,” Burton said. While fire officials said Sunday they are working to find the source of the fire, they believe it was electrical and started in the bathroom. Burton said even though they are left now with almost nothing, what did survive the fire is all that matters. “That right there is worth more than anything this trailer could ever hold. Just to know my family is safe,” Burton said. No one was injured in the fire. Henderson County Fire Chief Lynn Murphy said there were no working smoke detectors in the home.
