Jackson man accused of hitting girlfriend with 55 lb. weight

DOWNTOWN JACKSON — A man who police say assaulted his girlfriend and struck her in the head with an exercise weight was in court Monday. Jamel Maurice Scott is charged with aggravated domestic assault after police responded Saturday to a call on Hays Avenue. A woman told police that Scott, her boyfriend, had assaulted her, strangled her, pushed her to the ground, grabbed her hair and hit her head on the ground and went on to pick up a 55 lb. exercise weight and hit her in the side of the head with it, according to court documents. Scott was arrested on scene and taken into custody. He was issued a $5,000 bond.
