JACKSON, Tenn.– On a wet and cold Tuesday, some veterans do not have a warm place to call home. There is one organization doing there part to eliminate veterans being on the street. Area Relief Ministries runs a program called “Room in the Inn”, a program set up for single men in the area to go to local churches and have shelter overnight. ” 1 out of 3 veterans across the country are homeless, we have the same exact ratio with our program. About 1 in every 3 men that take part in our program end up being a veteran,” said Fred McKinnie. McKinnie is the director of “Room in the Inn” and is a fellow veteran himself. He served 8 years in the military and said that working with the veterans is something he takes pride in. “They served our country, and they give a lot. It’s our service as people to give back to the veterans,” said McKinnie. The shuttle that takes the men from the ARM offices leaves at 5 p.m. every night and takes them to participating churches.
