Family of Hardin Co. shooting victim want justice

HARDIN COUNTY, Tenn. — A family says they want answers after a shooting allegedly at the hands of a high school teacher. “I thought he was going to die,” the victim’s stepmother Emily Harville said. Harville said she wants someone held responsible after her 20-year-old stepson, Hunter Harville, was shot early Sunday. His fiancee, Emily Pendley, said she was with him when it happened in Bruton Branch. “We’re sitting at the store, and they all got out talking and I stayed in the truck,” she said. “That’s when a bullet came and went in the store.” “So they got in their vehicles and left, and as they was leaving, that’s when a bullet came through Hunter’s door,” Harville added. Pendley said Hunter kept driving for as long as he could but another friend had to get behind the wheel before they made it to the hospital. “I didn’t say nothing the whole way,” she said. “I was crying.” The family shared X-rays they say show bullet fragments still in Hunter’s upper leg. Doctors said he should be fine without removing them. “I felt relieved, but I was ready to go after whoever did it,” Harville said while crying. Sheriff Sammy Davidson told the Courier newspaper in Savannah that Hardin County High School teacher Jason Hunt is their suspect. Hunter’s family said Hunt never taught him, but they know one another. “We don’t have any answers,” Harville said. “We want answers and justice for him. Not only him, but the rest of the people there that night, because anybody could have been hurt or killed.” According to Hardin County Superintendent Michael Davis, Hunt has been suspended without pay. The sheriff’s department will not say if Hunt faces any charges.
