Latest Brownsville shooting: teen fatality

BROWNSVILLE, Tenn. — A teenager was killed in the sixth shooting and the second homicide in Brownsville Wednesday night. According to the Brownsville Police, the victim was shot inside a residence on Norris Street. Police investigators said there was an argument between two 17-year-old males, that escalated to gunfire. Names have not been released due to their juvenile status. The resident of the home, Edna Taylor, said the two were friends arguing in the bedroom of the home over a cell phone. She heard the argument while washing dishes. “I was standing up, getting ready to run the water, and I heard the shot,” said Taylor. She said when she went to investigate the noise, the victim stumbled into the living room, covering a chest wound. Investigators said officers arrived to the scene too late, and the victim had died from his wounds. The suspect was arrested hours later, and transferred to the Madison County Juvenile Detention Center. Brownsville Police Captain Chuck Willis said this shooting was not related to the spree of shootings that occurred earlier in the week. “We can’t tie anything back to the other shootings with this one. There’s nothing to connect to it. It may come down to an argument and a young man making a very bad decision,” said Captain Willis. The suspect was charged with second degree murder, he will return to Brownsville for a later court date.
