Avery Williamson: Milan Made Part 1

MILAN, Tenn. — No introduction is needed for Avery Williamson in Milan. Williamson is the first kid from his area to make it to the NFL. The hometown hero hasn’t forgotten his roots. “A lot of people want to follow your every move. Any bad move can influence a kid,” Williamson said. “The way my parents raised me, they taught me what to do,” he said. “I feel like they gave me a good skill set to take to the NFL with me.” Williamson describes his upbringing as country. As a kid, his summer workouts involved wearing weight shoes while farming and manning the chainsaw. “It’s really amazing that I was that determined at such a young age,” he said. “Most kids aren’t doing that.” His mom, Jacinca Williamson, remembers her son differently. “He was a fat baby, eight pounds. He came out hollering, so I knew he was ready to eat,” Jacinca said, laughing. “He’s been eating ever since.” Whether it’s food or football, the Titans linebacker has always had a large appetite. “I just took a shot at it. I kept on running with it. I didn’t look back,” Williamson said. “People that doubted me, I just ignored it.” His dad, Henry, isn’t surprised by his son’s dream coming true. “He’s always been a hard worker. That’s what I trained him to do,” Henry said. “If that’s what he wanted to do, he would be successful at it.” Football isn’t the only sport the 22-year-old loves. “Love to fish when I get the time to,” Williamson said. “Like to go with my dad. It just relaxes me. Get away, go on the water and not worry about anything.” In part two of “Milan Made,” the rookie discusses working his way up from special teams to middle linebacker.
