Lane College announces staff changes

EAST JACKSON — Officials at Lane College announced on Friday the creation of two new offices and the appointment of two longtime employees to those positions. Lane College President Logan Hampton announced that Darlette Carver Samuels has been named as Chief of Staff and Sherill Berry Scott as Vice President for Administration, according to a release from the school. Samuels previously served as executive assistant to the president, according to the release. In her new role, Samuels will serve as the chief adviser to the president, manage the staff and operations of the office of the president, serve as the liaison to the board of trustees, manage the president‘s direct report group, coordinate the president‘s cabinet, implement the college‘s strategic plan and partnerships, and oversee other projects as the president may direct, according to the release. Samuels is a native of Gary, Ind., and is the wife of Daryl Samuels. They are the parents of two daughters, Kristin and Morgan. Scott has been employed by the college for 35 years and has held various administrative positions in Student Affairs, Alumni Affairs and Title III programs. Scott now will ensure that all administrative service programs, support services, resources, and systems are user-friendly and supportive of the college‘s mission of affordability, accessibility, and quality for all students, according to the release. Scott’s primary duties will include, but not be limited to, coordinating Titles III and IX, Upward Bound, and other sponsored programs; supervising Enrollment Management, Registration, Switchboard, Transportation, and Information Technology Services; serving as the college‘s liaison to the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools; and ensuring compliance with the mandates of all institutional, state, and federal policies, standards, and regulations, which include the Clery and Violence Against Women Acts, as well as all other safety and security requirements. Scott is a lifelong resident of Jackson. She has held various administrative positions in Student Affairs, Alumni Affairs and Title III programs. She and her husband, Gregory, are the parents of two adult children, Ian and Megan, and the grandparents of four.
