Tennessee Education Lottery Educator of the Week: Pyron

BROWNSVILLE, Tenn. — This week’s Educator of the Week presented by the Tennessee Education Lottery is Sam Pyron of Brownsville. He has been teaching science and coaching football for almost two years at Haywood County Middle School. “I really like to come in every day and see the students so engaged and ready to learn,” Pyron said. The Bethel University grad says he is following the same dream as his dad, who is now the principal of Haywood County High School. “He was always talking about teaching, always had a liking and enjoyment with it,” Pyron said. “After seeing him do it was just an instant spark in my mind that this would be a No. 1 profession to choose.” Pyron enjoys teaching his 6th and 7th graders but says there can be challenges since this is a big transition period for students. “They’re in between elementary and high school. I think it’s an adjustment period,” Pyron said. “I think the 6th and 7th graders, there is a big difference between them that many would not think.” Pyron enjoys seeing his students be competitive but also acknowledges the need for a continued focus to be independent. “We want to allow students a way to have hands-on experiences just like football,” Pyron said. “A lot of times students will learn a lot quicker by basically doing it themselves.” Pyron will be eligible for the state-wide Tennessee Education Lottery Educator of the Month award.
