JACKSON, Tenn. — Jackson Police said Friday they are being proactive by increasing patrols during the holiday season. Officials said additional officers will be placed on patrol in busy shopping areas. It is not only patrol officers included in this increase of security. Administrative officers and specialty units went on 12-hour shifts to help. They also set up a special device in the Ross parking lot with two cameras hoisted high above the property. The device relays information to the dispatch center, and officials said it works as an extra set of eyes. Regina Ferrell said she appreciated the increased patrols during her Black Friday shopping. “It’s always really good to have extra police force, and they’ve been patrolling up and down the aisles ever since I’ve been here, so it’s really great,” Ferrell said. Other shoppers said they did not even notice the change. “We were even out last night, and we didn’t see hardly any policemen out, but I don’t think we’ve seen one. We came all the way from Atwood,” shopper Carol Kilbourn said. Jackson police officials recommend shoppers make sure their car doors are locked and their valuables are hidden during their time shopping this holiday season.
