Decatur Co. murder suspect’s father: My son is innocent

DECATUR COUNTY, Tenn. — The man accused of killing his friend, Wesley Conway, appeared before a judge Tuesday. When Dustin Lovelace walked into the courtroom, Conway’s friend, Laura Wyand, was still shocked to see him in shackles. “He was one of Wesley’s long best friends,” Wyand said. “He showed up at the ‘Justice for Wesley’ trail ride. He was there supporting and then come to find out he’s the one who done it. It hurts.” During Lovelace’s short appearance, his attorney, Taz Garner, said he just received evidence for the case and did not have anything new. For the second time the family shows up to an appearance with no new developments. “We didn’t really learn anything,” Conway’s father, Mike, said. “It’s just a process we’re going to have to go through until the wheels get to turning.” Dusty’s father, Delmer, said he maintains Dusty’s innocence. He said he was with Dusty at the time Wesley was killed. Investigators said Conway was killed in his driveway in Decaturville last November. The family said Thanksgiving was hard without Wesley. “He loved Thanksgiving and it was quieter, I guess you could say,” Mike Conway said. “It was different, you just kinda have to pull through it and go on.” That is why friends said they showed up decked in black and blue in support of his family during the holidays. “The friends want to know too because we’re still wondering why it happened to such a great person,” Wyand said. Lovelace is charged with first-degree murder and a long list of robbery, firearm and drug charges. He is scheduled to be back in court in January.
