Family and friends of man allegedly killed by JPD officer hold vigil

EAST JACKSON, Tenn — Supporters gather, Thursday, on the side of North Parkway to protest the death of a man allegedly shot and killed by a Jackson Police Officer. His family joined friends to remember Cinque D’Jahspora one month after he was killed. His father stood like many protesters across the country in the wake of the Ferguson grand jury decision. “Hands up, don’t shoot, not that it works,” L’Sana D’Jahspora said. They stood where investigators said the 20-year-old was fatally shot by Jackson Police Officer Raymond Bond. The victim’s mother, Michelle Curtain, said so far, none of their questions have been answered. “The past 4 weeks have been for me, surreal, and also a deep sense of sadness as a proud citizen of this country,” she said. She compares Cinque’s death to Michael Brown’s in Ferguson. “We are witnessing, nationwide, a problem with police departments so we just want more enforcement with black police officers, white police officers,” Curtain said. Investigators said when Bond responded to a suspicious person call, D’Jahspora stabbed officer Bond. Medical reports show Bond shot D’Jahspora in the back. Curtain said every day for the last month, she has thought about how that day could have ended differently. “He could’ve decided to shoot my child in the leg, he could’ve used a taser, he didn’t have to shoot to kill him,” she said. Friends decided to put out flowers and a sign for Cinque and invited his parents for a few moments of prayer. His father said they all share the same mission.. “Injustice thrives on darkness and we’re just trying to shed light, that’s all,” D’Jahspora said. At last report, Bond is still suspended with pay pending an investigation by the TBI. Jackson police have said there is dash cam video of the entire incident which they will release when the investigation is over.
