DOWNTOWN JACKSON — A man is charged with evading arrest and is accused of bringing drugs into jail after police say he fled the scene during a routine traffic stop. Carey Demoss was stopped for speeding on North Highland Avenue when police say he drove away as the officer was checking his driving history, according to an affidavit. The officer followed Demoss until he stopped again on Honeysuckle Drive where he ran on foot and was taken into custody behind a residence, according to the affidavit. While being booked into jail just before 1 a.m. Monday, Demoss was found to be in possession of two Oxycodone tablets wrapped in plastic bags along with a digital scale, according to a separate affidavit. Demoss is charged with evading arrest while operating a motor vehicle and introduction of a controlled substance into a penal institution. He was issued a $40,000 bond.
