Sorghum Valley Christmas helps organizations in need

DYERSBURG, Tenn — Volunteers at Sorghum Valley Christmas Village accepted donations instead of money for the cost of admission. Volunteers were posted at several entrance gates for three days with boxes, ready to accept donations instead of cash for the cost of admission. “Instead of a fee to get in they don’t have to pay anything. We ask them to come and bring something to give back to charities,” Board member and volunteer Aleece Jackson said. The donated items will be given to local charities, including the Salvation Army, the charity Matthew 25:40, and the Dyersburg Humane Society. Volunteers said this year’s donations increased substantially from last year. “We have no control over the weather, and last year it rained two days and nights so it was kinda down,” Jackson said. This year’s village was under a precipitation free sky, and paths were filled with visitors like Charles Robert Miller and his wife Donna. They donated cans as their entry fee. “So many unfortunate people can’t celebrate Christmas or the holidays and this kind of puts something in their bag,” said Miller.
