Man accused of stealing $6K money bag from Walmart

JACKSON, Tenn. — An man is facing a theft charge after police say he stole a money bag containing more than $6,000 he found on the floor at Walmart. Tyler Allen Schenk is charged with theft over $1,000, according to an affidavit. An assistant manager at Walmart on Emporium Drive tried to put the bag on a cart but missed, dropping it on the floor, according to the affidavit. Court documents say the bag contained $6,138 in cash and more than $200 in WIC checks. Store security footage allegedly shows a man in a wheelchair pick up the bag a few minutes later and conceal it, the affidavit states. Police say Schenk was identified as the man who took the bag and that Schenk admitted to the theft in an interview, the document states. Walmart is pursuing $6,338 in restitution from Schenk, according to the affidavit.
