Man accused of fleeing checkpoint faces gun, drug charges

DOWNTOWN JACKSON — A man was in court Monday after police say he fled the scene of a sobriety checkpoint and later was found to have drugs and a gun in his truck, according to court documents. Damon Jamarcus Pugh left the scene of a sobriety checkpoint just after 12 a.m. Sunday as the Dodge Ram pickup he was driving was being investigated, according to an affidavit. Pugh evaded officers and ignored light and sirens until coming to a stop in the 2200 block of Hollywood Drive, the document states. Police say they found a gun in the truck along with a digital scale with residue and a glove containing several plastic bags and about 36 grams of what appeared to be marijuana, according to the affidavit. Pugh also had $1,125 in cash in his pocket, according to the documents. Pugh is charged with unlawful possession of a handgun while in commission of a felony, evading arrest, possession of schedule VI with intent and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to the affidavit. Pugh is free on a $25,000 bond.
