Afternoon fire destroys Madison County home

MADISON COUNTY, Tenn. — A Madison County Family is picking up the mess after a fast moving fire ripped through their home. Everything inside, including presents sitting under the tree were destroyed. “I’m heartbroken,” Celena Williams a relative to the homeowners said. “They’ve lost everything.” The fire comes just one day after Christmas. Destroying everything, even presents under the tree. “It hits me hard, it feels like it’s my loss because it’s my sister,” Williams said. “I’m helpless, there’s nothing I could do to save anything.” Fire officials say a neighbor spotted the flames Friday afternoon but they quickly engulfed the entire house. “Upon arriving on the scene we had heavy fire coming from the roof,” Madison County Fire Chief Eric Turner said. “But we were able to get everything under control in about 20 minutes.” Luckily, Celena Williams says the family was in Kentucky when the fire broke out. “I’m grateful that they were gone to see other family,” Williams said. “So no one was hurt, I’m so glad about that.” Williams says this is not the first time the family has been devastated by a fire. “This is the second one,” Williams said. “They had just started getting back on their feet.” But just like before, Williams says they will come together and re-build. “We’re going to try everything,” Williams said. “They’re gong to stay at my house so they’ll have a place to start and we’re going to try and get them back on their feet.” Chief Turner says the cause of the fire is still under investigation but urges home owners to make sure they double check small appliances are unplugged before leaving for the holidays.
