JACKSON, Tenn — Physicians in Jackson said they saw record numbers of incoming flu patients, Saturday. Physician’s Quality Care in Jackson said they received about 50 incoming patients with flu symptoms on Saturday alone. They said they’ve seen more flu patients in the past two weeks than the entire flu season last year. Flu season runs from October to March. “15-25 confirmed positive and probably another 25-30 that have all the symptoms that probably are positive. They’re just not showing up on the test,” said Dr. Peter Gardner. He said the ineffectiveness of a recent vaccine is mostly the cause behind these high numbers. “This was known by the CDC back in March. So, we were a little bit prepared,” said Dr. Gardner. He recommend to prevent adding to that number, people stay active to stay healthy, mostly by practicing good hygiene. He said if you already have flu-like symptoms to seek help as quickly as possible. There’s a small window when the antiviral can be used as treatment. “If you feel like you have it, and it’s within 48 hours, go and be seen. So something can be done about it,” said Dr. Gardner. He also said people should still go to get their flu shot. He’s found that those who take the shot come in with less severe symptoms than those who haven’t.
