JACKSON, Tenn. — In a story last week, WBBJ covered a new law allowing convicted felons to get a court-issued certificate to make it easier to get a job. However, we failed to mention that before you go to the court clerk’s office to request a certificate of employability from a judge, you first must have your citizenship rights restored, something the county court clerk says is a lengthy process “You just can’t come down to the clerk’s office and say you want this petition for employability,” Madison County Clerk Kathy Blount said. Blount estimates the cost to get both your citizenship restored and the certificate of employability is around $300.
