MADISON COUNTY, Tenn.,-Some businesses said water woes for homeowners could get worse with warming temps. One homeowner recalls her nightmare becoming a reality. “I just thought I was going to lose everything,” Amber Jones said about the flooding in her home. Jones said she left the water running through her faucet on the nights when temperatures dipped into single digits. She said she thought the pipes made a different noise Thursday morning when her daughter alerted her,”she starts screaming, ‘mommy, it’s raining inside the house,” Jones said. “It starts coming out of every air vent, every light, just pouring,” Jones said of what happened moments before her ceiling gave way and crashed into her dining room. Now Jones’ home is filled with air movers and heaters, working to dry and air-out the water. Jones—like many has fallen victim to frozen and ruptured pipes, but restoration companies say she will not be the only one as temperatures increase over the next few days. “The worst may be yet to come,” Glen Pendergrass said. Pendergrass owns Servpro Restoration Service in Henderson. He said he and his team were expecting an increase in calls with recent weather reports “broken pipes that have been frozen and now are thawing out,” he said. Pendergrass said on average his business will work about four projects a week. Since Wednesday, they have responded to more than a dozen. “We began getting calls immediately as the temperature rose just a little bit and that’ll thaw out pipes,” he said. Pendergrass suggests homeowners double check insulation around water heaters and pipes. He also said open cabinets and leave water streaming through faucets.
