JACKSON, Tenn.- A man was arrested on a firearm charge Thursday evening after a disturbance at the Columns shopping area on Vann Drive, according to the Jackson Police Department. Several police vehicles responded to the scene near TGI Friday’s just after 5:30 after reports of three people causing a disturbance. “Alcohol was involved. There was a report that one subject may have had a handgun on his person,” said Interim Police Chief Julian Wiser. The man was charged with DUI and unlawful possession of a firearm, according to Wiser. As of Thursday evening police would not release the name of the man they arrested. Wiser said the disturbance call was made after someone dining at TGI Friday’s said they saw a gun in the suspects pocket. “The report was that one suspect may possibly be armed right now at this time there was no indication that he pulled the weapon or threatened anybody or the gun was fired,” Wiser said. Officials said the disturbance stemmed from an argument that appeared to have started after a debate over who was paying the bar tab. Wiser would not immediately release the identity of the other two involved or confirm if the three knew each other. While little information is being released at this time Wiser did confirm alcohol was involved and a handgun was recovered. “There was a weapon recovered from the vehicle and at this point it’s an ongoing investigation,” Wiser said. Wiser said there may be additional information about other suspects or arrests pending the investigation. Police said the one suspect they arrested will appear in Jackson City Court Friday morning.
