BOLIVAR,Tenn.– Firefighters said calls from an anonymous phone number are ringing in Bolivar homes. The caller on the other end of the line poses as a s potential danger for a burglary. “They’re saying to people that they have gotten together with the Bolivar Fire Department and said they have agreed to get into peoples houses, and that is completely wrong,” said Bolivar Fire Chief Lynn Price. Chief Price said he was made aware of the problem when one of his former firefighters got the call. Price said he was immediately suspicious and decided to call the number. “The number has a dead dial tone. We can’t figure out who is calling. They might be trying to get in your house and take things or they may just go in side and say you need this or you need that and scam you,” Price said. Chief Price said the department has received several calls from residents who say someone is claiming to be working with the department and trying to get inside to look at or install a smoke detector. Price said if you are receiving the calls to either call the department or call the police. He says he is keeping track of how many people are receiving the calls and will turn over the information to police to help investigate.
