OAKFIELD, Tenn. — Some furry paws will hopefully be making their way into their forever home in just a few weeks. Amanda Forsythe is the adoption coordinator for Saving the Animals Together, or STAT, an organization in Jackson that helps transition the puppies from the street to a loving family. “When applications come in, I contact all the adopters as well as their references, just to make sure it’s the perfect home for that pet,” Forsythe said. This is one time of the year Brenda Bush said they see an increase in K-9 returns, but these gifts cannot be restocked on store shelves. “We have quite a few puppies after Christmas. It’s a big time for people that get them as gifts, and there’s a large influx into local shelters at that point in time,” Bush said. For STAT, they are putting in a lot more hours filtering through applications of families looking to adopt. “We’re making sure the dogs are comfortable. If they have children or other dogs in the home, we’re making sure everyone is comfortable in that environment with the dogs and humans,” Forsythe said. Organization members explained owners need to be aware of the time commitment, and be ready to give a lot of love. To learn more about STAT, visit their website, www.savingtheanimalstogether.org
