JACKSON, Tenn. — Benjamin Martin serves as assistant band director at Liberty Technology Magnet High School. “I enjoy helping others learn the value of music and appreciating music,” Martin said. The McKenzie High School graduate said he accepted the position at Liberty Tech about six years ago. “I like the ah-ha moment, or ‘I can get it’ or ‘I can strive to be better,'” Martin said. Martin graduated from the University of Tennessee at Martin with a degree in music education and holds a master’s degree in music performance from the University of Central Arkansas. Martin also plays multiple instruments. “Congas, Arabic tambourine known as the Riq, a Bodhran, which is an Irish drum,” he said. When asked his favorite thing about teaching, Martin responded, “When the students understand the concept or grasp a new element that they didn’t know before.” Martin will be eligible for the statewide Tennessee Education Lottery Educator of the Month Award.
