BOLIVAR, Tenn. — Saturday afternoon, the brother of a shooting victim in Bolivar arranged a non-violence march within the annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. parade. Clarence Minter was killed after a December shooting in Bolivar. Police said it is still an open investigation. Clarence’s brother, Caleb Minter, organized a march to promote gun violence awareness. Hundreds of people came to view the march. Some residents said that’s more than they’ve ever seen in the small city’s history. “Everybody knows each other, and when it hits home, it’s like, that could have been my brother, that could have been my sister,” Caleb Minter said. Minter said the citizens of Bolivar need to act now in order to safely secure the future of its young citizens. Residents agreed. “They’re killing each other so fast and so uselessly,” said M.L. Moses, member of the Bolivar Black History Community. “We’re losing so many lives that could count in the future.” Minter said he’s looking forward to the future and carrying out his brother’s memory. “I have to live for his daughter, and I have to live for the next person, the next generation,” Minter said. “We’ll have to be there for one another, not kill one another off, because we need each other.” The family said they’re creating a foundation in Clarence’s name to gear Bolivar youth toward brighter futures.
