JACKSON, Tenn. — Investigators said a suspect’s car leaving the scene of Tuesday’s deadly shooting was captured on a city crime camera. That snapshot has led them to a person of interest. For the first time since city crime cameras went up last June, police release images from one to ask the public to help identify a suspect. “It’s like having extra eyes out there on the street, and anybody through the use of social media can participate in an investigation,” Capt. Tyreece Miller with the Jackson Police Department said. Around 9:15 a.m. Tuesday, officers said James Roberson, 25, was fatally shot in front of a home on Woodberry Trail in west Jackson. “The best thing we can do when it happens is to make a swift arrest, and that’s what we’re desperately trying to do in this case,” Miller said. He said witnesses saw the gunman and his car and so did a camera on nearby Old Hickory Boulevard. “The camera substantiates and it validates what people have told us,” Miller said. “People told us either an Altima or a Maxima, and through the use of a camera and witnesses we’ve been able to positively identify this car.” Police said they are looking for a 2007 white Nissan Maxima with a sunroof and tinted windows. Jackson residents said they are glad to help catch who is involved in violent crime. “If it solves the crime of the person who did it, I think it would be helpful and it would also bring some relief to the family,” Gwen Outlaw said. Residents think releasing the picture shows criminals even when they do not know it, they are being watched. “Maybe it will make some people think before they act in certain situations that they’re being monitored, and maybe they will not commit the crime,” Outlaw said. If you have any information, call Crime Stoppers at (731) 424-TIPS (8477). You can remain anonymous and reward money is available.
