Worldwide supporters speak up for Beau the dog

DYERSBURG, Tenn. — Beau the dog was the subject of hundreds of letters and dozens of phone calls to city hall from Tuesday alone, according to city officials. Beau is a German Shepherd/Lab mix, deemed dangerous by the city, after officials said he killed a duck and tried to attack a child last fall. “I don’t know what to think about it. I’ve never seen anything like this before over a dog,” said Sue Teague, human resources director at city hall. According to city hall employees, the mayor’s receptionist received about 95 voice mails from the past weekend concerning Beau. Several city paid employees said their voice mail boxes were filled with messages from Beau supporters. “Over the term that’s been going on since November I think we’ve had several hundred calls,” said T. J. Jones, Dyer County Circuit Court Clerk. He said that number spikes with new Facebook posts or media coverage on the case. Tuesday, Jones said one of the owner’s attorneys, Brian Boyd, was granted a withdrawal from the case. Dyersburg attorney William Edwards is the only one remaining. The next hearing for Beau was set for Friday at 10 a.m.
