MIDDLETON, Tenn. — The Hardeman County Sheriff’s Office said they have charged Marty Holland with attempted first-degree murder and aggravated burglary. Deputies say Holland allegedly attacked Southwind Restaurant owner Michael Druien in December. “I was shocked,” Druien said. “I’ve been having this burden since the attack. I didn’t know who it was or why they did this. It was frightening.” Holland is already behind bars, accused of robbing a Selmer bank. According to a report from the Hardeman County Sheriff’s Office, Holland was allegedly wearing a mask when he hit Druien in the head with a tire iron. While Holland was beating Druien with the tire iron, he told Druien he was going to kill him. Deputies said after the beating Holland grabbed Druien’s briefcase full of cash and then ran away. “It was a fight for life,” Druien said. “My adrenaline was pumping, and I was just trying to stay alive.” Druien said he spent eight days in the hospital recovering from his injuries. He says Holland was a former employee of his, but he was fired before the attack.
