BOLIVAR, Tenn. — Students have been allowed to return to class and officers are leaving the scene after investigating a bomb threat at Bolivar Central High School, according to Bolivar police. Police have confirmed the school received a bomb threat by telephone Thursday morning. “It was a bomb in a backpack in the school,” criminal investigator Shane Swift said about the caller’s message. All students were evacuated as police investigated the buildings. A bomb squad and K-9 unit also were called in from Jackson to assist with the investigation. “Police officers searched the school first just to make sure there wasn’t anything obvious,” Swift said. Investigators found nothing suspicious, and after the nearly three-hour ordeal students were allowed back into the building to resume classes. “It kind of scared us,” said Laramie Russell, senior. “We looked outside and saw all these cop cars, and we didn’t know what was going on.” Police said they will investigate where the call came from but that it might be a few weeks before they find who is responsible. Officers said that person could face the charge of filing a false police report with a bomb, which is a Class C felony with prison time ranging from three to 15 years.
