WEAKLEY COUNTY, Tenn. — Investigators at the Weakley County Sheriff’s Office say a woman is being treated at a Memphis hospital for stab wounds and bleeding around her brain. Capt. Randall McGowan said the department received a call at 3:36 p.m. Tuesday that someone had been stabbed on Shades Bridge Road south of Greenfield. Investigators say Anthony Dale Stanford, 33, allegedly stabbed and beat the woman, fleeing the scene before deputies arrived. Deputies say Stanford turned himself in at the Sheriff’s Office Tuesday night after being on the run for almost four hours. Stanford is charged with attempted second-degree murder. When deputies and EMS workers arrived, they say they found a 31-year-old woman with several stab wounds to her neck and torso. “We found the victim with numerous stab wounds another bruising and what appeared to be maybe a broken arm,” Investigator Marty Plunk said. The suspect’s uncle, Billy Keymon, said he drove by the home on Shades Bridge Road and saw the two fighting… But didn’t think anything of it. “I went to my sister’s house and let my other nephew out and come back home and all the ambulances and law was here then,” Keymon said. Keymon said to his knowledge the two had never fought like this before. “I just thought they was into it,” Keymon said. Investigator Plunk said Stanford has a criminal record but no violent charges. “He’s had several law enforcement contact, but most of his criminal past has been misdemeanors.” The woman was taken to Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin and later transferred to Regional One in Memphis where she is listed in critical condition. Investigators could not say what might have prompted the violence. Stanford was arraigned Wednesday and is being held at the Weakley County Jail without bond. He is set to have his preliminary hearing Wednesday, February 11.
