JMCSS announces 2014-15 Teachers of the Year

JACKSON, Tenn. — Leaders with the Jackson-Madison County School District announce the 2014-2015 Teachers of the Year. The district selects one overall Teacher of the Year for each division level, including one teacher from elementary, one from middle school and one from high school. For grades K-4 division, Alfreda Northern from Denmark Elementary is the Teacher of the Year winner. Northern is a fourth grade math and science teacher and is a product of the Jackson-Madison County School System. She has taught in the school system for five years. For grades 5-8 division, Chris Nye from Northeast Middle School is the Teacher of the Year winner. Nye is a teacher of Algebra I, 7th grade Pre-Algebra and 8th grade Pre-Algebra. He has previously taught at JCM and Liberty prior to teaching at the Academic Academy at Northeast Middle. For grades 9-12 division, Susan Mauney from South Side High School is the Teacher of the Year winner. Mauney is a teacher of Desktop Publishing and Interactive Multimedia. She previously taught for 16 years at Itawamba Community College. Each year, the school system recognizes one teacher in each district school as Teacher of the Year through a program sponsored by the Tennessee Department of Education.
